Reports of School Closure and Re-Opening
Pursuant to Commissioner’s regulation 155.17(f), each superintendent of a school district, board of cooperative educational services (BOCES), county vocational education and extension board, and each charter school leader shall notify the commissioner as soon as possible whenever the emergency plan or building-level school safety plan is activated and results in the closing of a school building in the district.
Please note that these reports are not for permanently closing or reopening previously closed school buildings. If you would like to report the permanent closing or reopening of a school in the district, please contact the .
Report of School Closure
A report of school closure is to be submitted by the superintendent, district superintendent, or CEO when at least one or more schools within the district have been temporarily closed on days where instruction is anticipated due to the activation of the district's emergency response plan. The report will contain the following information:
- Local ¶«¾©ÈÈal Agency information.
- The name and BEDS code(s) of the affected school(s).
- The date the school(s) closed due to activation of the emergency response plan.
- The anticipated amount of days closed.
- The reason for school closure.
- Whether school(s) closed due to properly executed declaration of state or local state of emergency pursuant to ¶«¾©ÈÈ Law §3604(7).
- Any other pertinent information.
- If notification was provided to the BOCES District Superintendent (public schools only).
When a school(s) close due to the activation of the district's emergency response plan, the report of school closure should be submitted as soon as possible.
Report of School Re-Opening
A report of school re-opening is to be submitted by the superintendent, district superintendent, or CEO when at least one or more schools reopen after being temporarily closed due to the activation of the district's emergency response plan. The report will contain the following information:Ìý
- Local ¶«¾©ÈÈal Agency information.
- The name and BEDS code(s) of the affected school(s).
- The date the school(s) closed due to activation of the emergency response plan.
- The anticipated amount of days closed.
- The reason for school closure.
- Any other pertinent information.
- Any relevant documents.
- Whether during school closure students that attend the closed school(s) received instruction elsewhere or through other means.
- A description of the re-opening procedures.
When a school(s) reopen after closure due to the activation of the district's emergency response plan, the report of school re-opening should be submitted as soon as possible.
